A shower - could it possibly be harmful to us?

A report in the London METRO on Monday July 4th page 11 by John Higginson indicated that it just could be! He wrote that taking a shower could give you brain damage new research suggests. Showering apparently can expose us to high levels of Manganese a poisonous metal dissolved in water. This metal has been linked to damage to the nervous system. There are safe levels that most countries have as guidelines which our water companies adhere to. They apparently do not take into account the fact that we inhale steam vapour while showering US scientists have warned. Safe levels in the US are considered to be 0.5mg, however a EU directive reduced this to 0.05mg for Europe and the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural affairs said British people should not worry. Taking regular exercise need not take as long as you think some very fit people are saying!

Some fitness professionals are now saying that a 2 minute high intensity burst of exercise a day can be as good as a 2 hour session of fitness training. This is however not recommended for everyone, reasonable care should be taken for the unfit, the elderly and those with health problems.

Fish oils make the headlines again

Hayfever, could we be barking up the right tree and finally coming up with a solution to this very miserable ailment

Hayfever symptoms arrive when the bodies immune system detects it is under attack and distributes out large amounts of Histamine. The carrot is back in the spotlight and just one a day it is thought has potentially life saving properties. Falcarinol is a naturally produced element carrots produce to protect themselves from fungal disease - it is thought that the element may stimulate a cancer fighting mechanism in the body.

Those oats first thing in the morning could be good for you!
It has been said for a long time now that oats have been shown to reduce cholestral and cut the risk of heart disease.

Salad days! - eating a salad a day could reduce the risk of kidney cancer.
A study over 13 years with more than 60,000 women aged between 40 and 75 have discovered that those who ate salad such as lettuce and cucumber once or more a day had their chances of developing renal cell carcinoma reduced.

The Mediterranean diet shows the way forward!
The Times reported that wherever you live, the closer you move towards the diet of southern Italy or Greece the better the chances of living Longer. Following their diet high in fruit, vegetables and legumes (or oily fish), low fat in meat and dairy products, one or two units of wine a day and cooking or dressing with Olive oil, could make all the difference to your health in the long run.
